Day #1

Well I survived my first day in Wien! The flight wasn’t bad and I even managed all my bags to meet up with my buddy in the center of the city (although there were many stairs I had to haul my 47 lb bag, carry on, and backpack up and down!) Getting into my apartment was a struggle and thank goodness I had my buddy that spoke German! We wandered around for almost an hour trying to find where to get my key because they have several different elevators and they all go to different floors and there were no signs! Once to the office, I got my key and filled out a bunch of paperwork in German. I was surprised it wasn’t in English since most of the students here I am told are international students. Then I basically set my stuff in the apartment, threw on different clothes, and went to the orientation.

I was bummed I missed the first session but did make it in time for the campus tour and being put into groups. Then, after the tour that took attendance I learned they had me in two groups and got switched to a different group! I was already frazzled from flying in that morning so having to switch groups after an hour threw me off. In my new group we did some get to know you games and then I had to stay after to learn what I missed from before! By the time that was done everyone had left and I was going to have to take the train back to my apartment by myself! Thankfully I ran into Brooke and some other girls and we did some exploring before taking the train back to all of our different apartments. I then slept for about 14 hours haha because I was so jet-legged and overall tired! This morning I woke up and went to see what my building had to offer and was excited to find that their is are multiple stores, restaurants, and train station within a 5 minute walk from my room!

I had my first meal since the plane ride over ( first meal in 24 hours I was so tired I wasn’t even hungry). I ordered all in German ( consisted of pointed to what I wanted, saying yes, and thank you). Turns out I think she asked if I wanted it to go and I said yes and then proceeded to take a seat and eat it haha. Whatever is was I am sure it was unhealthy, but so tasty!!

I still haven’t met all my roommates but have such a nice room and amenities nearby. I do have to transfer train stops but will hopefully figure out the bus that takes me to WU soon. If only I could get my own room like this for $450 at minnesota! You can see the pictures for yourself! I want to decorate more and put up pictures soon! Well, I am touring around the first district today with some other people (apparently the fancy part of town)

❤️ Melanie

I am not sure how to add pictures and captions at the same time but hopefully I will figure that out soon! Here is my tasty breakfast and my new casa for the next 4 months!
