I have been in Milan for two days now and am really enjoying it. I have basically eaten my way through Milan with pizza, gelato, bread and more carbs! The weather is beautiful being about 50 and sunny, which adds to why I love the city. Most people bypass Milan to see other cities in Italy so if I love Milan this much I am excited for the rest of the country! Some of the things I have done include; seeing the duomo cathedral, going to the top of the cathedral, seeing the canals in Milan, visiting their famous cemetery, visiting the castle, wandering milan’s parks, going shopping, and generally walking all over the city. I must have walked at least 10 miles each day!
One of my favorite things was going to the top of the duomo cathedral! Duomo is my favorite cathedral even when compared to St. Vitus in Prague and Stephansplaz in Vienna! I climbed all the way to the top( adding to my 10 miles I probably walked today) and once there I could see the alps to the north since it was a clear day. The pictures aren’t as good since they are only from my phone but I will add descriptions and my camera pictures when back in Vienna!
The food in Milan needs it’s own paragraph because it really is that delicious! My roommate in Vienna is from Milan and has been amazing when planning my last minute trip here. I wish I could have come with her, but at least I get her advice! I went to supposedly the best gelato in Milan( and maybe italy), the eataly, had Italian pizza, and tried this amazing place called Luni and tasted a panzerotto! Both Luni and the gelato place had lines down the street so walking up I knew they would be good! I plan to go to my roommate’s favorite pizza place when I am back in Milan next week! The pizza I already had was quite good and being 8€ was quite inexpensive( especially for the size).
I must say italians don’t speak English like the other places I have traveled to so far making communication difficult at times. I have also noticed Italians are friendlier , which is good and bad. So many times people have come up to me on the streets trying to give me bracelets, sell me stuff, beg for money, have me feed the birds etc. it is quite annoying. I think I need to work on my Italian accent because when I say “no grazie” I sound foreign and not convincing enough apparently! It is a nice change that people smile on the street though in contrast to wien!
I am leaving for cinque terre tomorrow! I have wanted to go the cinque terre for about 2 years and had it set as the background on my computer for quite some time and am excited to see it in person. The weather is supposed to continue being nice, hitting 66 next week ( glad I brought my winter coat, uggs, and no shorts 😕). After cinque terre I am back in Milan with hopefully a day trip to lake como! I am loving all of the traveling and being independent isn’t so bad! Missing you all from back home and thanks for reading!
❤️Melanie
