Hi from Brussels, Belgium! I ended up liking the city a lot more than I thought I would and highly reccomend anyone to visit! It was a nice break from all of the tourists and selfie sticks in Paris. Right when we arrived, we had 10 minutes until a free walking tour from our hostel left, perfect timing. I heard good things about free walking tours and I understand why! Instead of trying to figure out a map on your own and where the important things are simply follow along. You also pay the tour guides on tips so they only make money if it is a good tour. Some of the pictures show the highlights, but it was starting to get cloudy so my pictures just weren’t as great. although brussels is pretty, I am basically here for the food😊
After the tour, along with some others from our walking tour we went and got fries from Fritland. They were delicious and reminded me of the fries from the Minnesota State Fair, but better. We had the choice of sauce and I ended up going with classic ketchup but we when back later and tried the sauce called pita! ( I know 2 fries in 2 days but we are in Brussels!) Later we met up with the same people from the walking tour for dinner and drinks. You walk down this main food street and they really sell you since all of the restaurants serve basically the same thing at the same price. I got steak again because it was the same price as everything else and I am really going to miss steak once I get back to Vienna and have to pay 40€ to make it myself!
This morning, we woke up and got classic Belgium waffle. I chose Nutella, strawberries and whip cream on mine although most locals eat them plain. It was amazing and I think the secret lies in the batter being much thicker.
Then we went to a musical instruments museum. It was only 2€ for students and you get an audio to play music in front of all of the old instruments. We saw ancient flutes, pianos, violins, bagpipes, and more! Overall, quite impressed with this city and am loving not having to deal with crazy tourists and selfie sticks! Now we are off on the Megabus to Amsterdam! Thanks for reading!
