Across the Pond

Greetings from London! I have been here for only 2 days but it seems longer since they have been action packed! I arrived Sunday morning on a night bus from Amsterdam. That was an adventure in and of itself because I had to go through customs at 3am, got off the bus onto the ferry at 5 am etc so it wasn’t quite the 10 hours of sleep on a bus, but for 9€ I can’t complain too much.

Adventures so far:

  • Walking tour of central London. This included Trafagar square, buckingham palace, green park, Big Ben, parliament, downtown abbey, etc. It was a decent tour but I knew most of the history since it was quite basic. Nice way to see the main sites though
  • 9 3/4 platform picture because it wouldn’t be a trip to London without this picture( on my camera so I can’t upload it now)
  • Bourgh market- market with lots of foods from all over the world. Inspiration for Harry Potter I think
  • British museum- got to see the Rosetta Stone, mummies and more. All museums in London are free which is nice
  • Tate modern- lasted about 30 minutes…. I am not a fan of modern art haha
  • Tower of london and the tower bridge-walking around this area was fun. Interesting to also see in new modern buildings in this part of town
  • Globe theater-nothing too exciting since I didn’t even go in but ateast I walked by
  • Ride on a red double decker bus- so important it had to be included in this list😜

So far I am really enjoying London! So nice to be immersed in English after 2 months of other languages! I must say that London is quite similar to the US compared to all of the other European countries, which is to be expected. A starbucks is on almost every corner and american brands are more prominent and easy to find than in Vienna. I have had Sunny and warm weather so far☀️My only complaint is that wow London is expensive and the pound to dollar rate is such a bummer. Excited to meet up with friends from Minnesota in the next few days I am here. Thanks for reading!!
