We have arrived in Rome! We took the train in and just had dinner at a place down the street from our hotel! Everyone was speaking in Italian and that is always a good sign.
The next morning we got up ready for the Vatican. I heard we should have booked our tickets in advance but you needed at least 3 days noticed and we really hadn’t planned out our trip well enough for that! Big mistake because even though we got there at 8am there was a crazy line. We decided to do a tour with a skip the line access which was good and bad. It was nice not having to wait in line, but I think the tour could have been better. Overall the Vatican Was crazy. It was body to body all the way though the museum and just crazy busy! The sistene chapel was beautiful and so was St. Peter’s but still hard with the crazy number of people.
After making it though the Vatican getting some pictures we decided to check out the town some more. It was kind of a rainy day, but we walked around the the Spanish steps, trevi foundain, and the capital. Both the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps were kind of a let down. The trevi foundain was under construction which I knew ahead of time and the Spanish steps church on the top was also under construction. In pictures of the Spanish steps they always have flowers blooming, but their weren’t any when we were there! Oh well, I guess I can say I saw them even though it was nothing special. I didn’t get to live out my Lizzie mguire dreams at trevi foundation though!
Th next day we said goodbye to Bobby and Marlene and they head off to Paris and London! We went and walked around the trastvere neighborhood, the capital, and thedid the colosseum and forum. It was so difficult figuring out how to get into the coloseeum for being such a famous landmark! I reserved tickets online and we couldn’t find the entrance! The colosseum was so interesting to learn about the crazy battles that were fought there and how it was acceptable to watch people fight to the death so long ago. The forum (ancient ruins) were also cool to think of how old everything is. Some are older than Jesus!! We finished the day watching the sunset over the coloseeum with some gelato😊 not a bad way to end the day!
