We have spent the last several days further exploring our new home. We have hit over 50 miles on our new bikes!
Bike ride to Weesp
I was told that this ice cream shop in Weesp has the best gelato in the Netherlands so obviously we biked 20 miles to find out! I must say it was quite tasty and popular with the locals. The line was about 50 people deep. To be fair, it was one of the first nice days here at 70 and sunny. We enjoyed walking around the small town and even saw more windmills.
First day of work
Ryan had his first official day on work on April 1. I am still technically on my US team till the 14th. I got to lead a 2 hour long presentation from 5:30-7:30 pm on April 1 lol. I have meet my small client team and the Brussels office through coffee chats and happy hours already though. Excited that everyone seems welcoming and helpful. Overall, first impression is that the company culture is very similar to my chicago office which is quite reassuring.
Amsterdamse Bos
We heard great things about the Amsterdam forest and the cherry blossom park. We biked over and were quite surprised at the long line. We didn’t have any other plans for the day though so we ended up waiting to see the trees. An hour and 45 minutes later we were allowed in 😂 we did some great pictures! Ironically, last May we booked tickets to Japan for the cherry blossoms 2021 and instead got to see the cherry blossoms this year from our new Amsterdam home 😀
Friday Fries and Window Wine
Ryan is trying to work on me for fry Fridays. There is an amazing Friday window about 5 minutes from our apartment so we stopped by after the cherry blossoms. Not sure my waistline will like fries every Fridays but the 4 flights of stairs up to our apartment will probably balance it out lol. We also have been enjoying having our windows open with a glass of red wine. Sometimes with a stroopwafel on top 😛
Dutch Fashion
I have been trying to get an appointment to shop at Primark every day with no luck. I think they are full within minutes and I can’t figure out when they are posted. For now, I went to H&M to get a few new European items. Plus, I haven’t done much shopping in the last year because of quarantine and once I knew we were moving I didn’t buy anything. I asked Ryan to take a picture, but he tricked me with a video so here is me modeling my new clothes!
