On Saturday we decided it would be fun to get out of town for a bit and go exploring. With restaurants and stores closed with COVID now is the perfect time to do more things outdoors!
Zaanse Schans in a quaint town about a 20 train ride away from Amsterdam central station and known for their windmills. It is also about a 22 mile bike ride which is doable. Today, we decided to take the train.
First up, we walked through the side of town with all of the windmills!

We walked along the many windmills and took a lot of photos. It was about 45 and sunny with the breeze so not too bad.
I found a cat AND she was friendly which was a bonus for the day.
This was on the town side looking across the windmills. The book work in me loved the little library built in too Dutch style.
On the way back to Amsterdam central we stopped at the town on Zaandam to check out this cool hotel! There was also was a nice shopping area and for sure worth the stop coming back from Amsterdam! It felt like almost a fake town it was too perfect. Ryan said the waterfall in the area even smelled like Disney.
Tomorrow we are excited to go to the flower district of the Netherlands. With the cold weather the tulips are a little later than normal, but hoping to see some hyacinths and daffodils too. Stay tuned!
