As I was opening up my blog to write this post I realized it has been almost a month since my last one! Oh how time flies. I wanted to write a little bit about our recent day trips to Utrecht and Rotterdam which are both close cities to Amsterdam.
Utretcht
Utrecht is a small town that is only a 30 minute train ride from Amsterdam which makes it perfect for an easy day trip. The town is most known for the lower canals with cafes right on the water. For example, in Amsterdam the water is not as high so when you sit at a cafe you have a good 6 ft to water level. Ryan’s coworker and his wife joined us which was a fun adventure!
Rotterdam
Rotterdam is known as a new port city. Most all of Rotterdam (other than the main cathedral) was destroyed in WWII so everything is quite new compared to most other places in the Netherlands. A fun fact that I don’t think I have mentioned on my blog yet is that our canal house that we live in was built in 1695. That means it is 300 years older than me-DAAAAAANG
The main reason that we decided to go Rotterdam was we rented a “Hot Tug” for the afternoon. About a month ago at a wine walk in the rain some of the other girls and I were cold and dreaming of being warm in a hot tug on the water. We rallied a group and booked it for a month in advance! Fast forward and it is starting to become summer in Amsterdam so we probably didn’t need the hot tub part as much, but it was still greatly appreciated.
Next up, what we had been waiting for was the hot tub boat! We order some wine from the nearby restaurant and Ryan was our loyal boat captain👨🏻✈️
There was even a photographer wandering around Rotterdam that got some cool shots from a distance of what the boat looked like in the city!
After the boat we went out for Indian food which was amazing and headed for the train; we mostly slept the way back to Amsterdam. It was a gorgeous walk home from the train station with gelato in hand.
