Catch me in Croatia

We have arrived in Croatia! We were aiming to go south to catch better weather as the Netherlands is a gamble in October.

Our first day in Croatia we took the city bus from the airport to the small town of Trogir just 10 minutes from the Split airport. We walked around and had wine right on the water. We even made a kitty friend and fed her some of our lunch 😋

For day 2, my mom and Marlene took a day trip to the famous Plitvice national park. Unfortunately, the forecast ended up being 36 and rain…. So much for it being warmer south. I was suppose to go on a tour to Mostar since I went to Plitvice back in 2015. Although, 3 different tour companies canceled on me and one at 5:30 the night before….

I ended up sleeping in and then taking a ferry to Supetar on Brac island. It was a lot of walking around and taking pictures as there isn’t a ton to do on the island. Plus, it is very quiet with October being off-season already. The ferry was about an hour from split. Additionally, Brac has one of the most famous beaches in Croatia, but on the far other side of the island. It would have been another 1 hour drive so I didn’t think it was worth it. Enjoy some pictures brought to you by my small tripod!

I also want to plug our cute hotel Pellegrini Luxury Rooms that we stayed at in Split. The owner was so sweet, it had a great location, and I always enjoy supporting the small hotels when traveling (this place had maybe 6 rooms total). Of course, booked using Booking.com.

Next up, we took the ferry and spent 2 days exploring Hvar. Ryan and I visited Hvar in October 2018 and I still can’t get over the gorgeous blue water! Below are a few pictures from walking around the island. We also went to our favorite restaurant Dalmatino Hvar. Ryan and I went here 2 or 3 times in 2018 and even going again this trip it did not disappoint! We wrapped up the night with drinks at a local place by our hotel.

We also checked out the castle on the top of the island the next morning. It was easy enough to get a taxi to the top as an alternative to all of the stairs.

We walked down from the castle and saw another kitty friend. You can see where I get my love of cats and cat pictures from 😉

After the castle we headed back from Hvar in time to explore Split. Some of the highlights include walking around the old town, delicious gelato and dinner at Mazzgoon. Annoying, it was the nicest weather on the day we left, but oh well!

We had a great trip! It takes more planning and flexibility to travel during COVID, but everything worked out in the end with extra caution as well. I may have split from my family as they head home, but I am not done traveling yet! Stay tuned for my next stop of Florence.

❤️Melanie
