Flourishing in Florence

After splitting up from my family I headed to Florence! I was in Florence in 2015, but since it rained we mostly stuck to museums. I have always wanted to go back to explore the city further!

This trip, I started with a cooking class on day 1! We made two types of pasta from scratch and started with just an egg and flour. I used Airbnb experience and would highly recommend a class. In theory, I should be able to make pasta on my own, but don’t count on my retaining all that knowledge😂

Here are a few of my favorite city pictures. When you are a solo traveller it means more city pictures than normal🤷🏽‍♀️

Another place I missed on my last trip was a sunset at plaza Michelangelo. It was crowded, but look at these views!

Another fun place I highly recommend is getting a coffee at La Terrazza. The views are incredible with minimal people and for only the price of a 4€ cappuccino. Fun fact, I went here in 2015, but I think we can all see the glow up!

In Florence, they have leather markets everywhere, selling purses, wallets, jackets, backpacks and more. It took me a few days before I caved and got a new purse. Pro tip, make sure you go to a few booths to get an idea of pricing and then negotiate down further.

I know the real reason you visited my blog is to see how the amazing food and hear some restaurant recos, so I won’t disappoint!

First reco is trattatoria Zaza. We sat by locals from Florence who were very chatty and said they frequently visit the place. I got pasta with truffle sauce and tiramisu for dessert. We also split a liter of wine for €12-how cheap. We shared with the locals new to us as we were a little ambitious with the size.

Obviously, I ate gelato everyday I was there. Gelateria dei Neri and Gelateria La Carraia were both fabulous!

Other fabulous meals include Gusta Pizza. They serve heart pizzas and everything is so reasonable with entire pizzas around 6€.

Another suggestion is going to the Mercato Centrale Firenze. It is a market in the downstairs selling Italian food, meat, cheese etc and upstairs is a good hall with lots of food options! I got a simple pasta dish that was tasty.

For one day from Florence I took a day trip to Siena. It was fun to walk around a town in the middle of Tuscany and eat more of course! I loved the pottery hanging around the tourist shops. I also met up with a girl from my hostel which was fun to have company.

The only struggle was on my way home the train got canceled so I got rerouted and it took over 3 hours 🤦🏽‍♀️ it should have been more like 1.25 hours- oh well!

I am going to Tuscany which deserves a separate blog post so stay tuned for a million wine photos!

❤️Melanie
