We decided for one of our days in Barcelona to check out the Montserrat Monastery just outside of Barcelona city. Living in Amsterdam I have to take advantage of any opportunity to get into the mountains.
Overall, I was really impressed and can see why this is such a popular day trip from Barcelona. Trains leave every 30 minutes to 1 hour. Of course, we just missed one and had to wait about 45 minutes for the next one, but that just meant a coffee side stop!

It was difficult to find information about the variety of tickets for Montserrat as there are a ton of different funiculars, cable cars, museums, etc. when you get there all at various prices. Ryan and I decided to go with the unlimited ticket that would include lunch and all transit to get there and while there. It seems like a good ticket to see as much as possible. I will say that our first rooky mistake is that we decided to take the cable car up to the Monastery instead of the funicular/train. It looked so cool from the pictures we saw online and it seemed to be the more recommended option. The con is that the cable cars are small so after our hour train ride there we had to wait another hour to get on a cable car. It was beautiful views, although not for those afraid of heights (my mom ;))

Once at the top one of our favorite hikes was to Sant Miquel as it only takes an hour for these stunning views!

These views are from around the main buildings!

We also highly recommend the funnicular de Sant Joan. We then hiked a little bit at the top of these spot too see all of the cool rock formations!

Again, highly recommend as it was a beautiful landscape and great hiking not far from the city. We didn’t go into the museum as we focused more on the hiking and didn’t have as much time as we liked, but oh well!
