Texel (pronounced “tessel”) is one of several Dutch islands north of the main part of the Netherlands. The island is a popular summer destination for both Dutch and German families. It has been especially popular with COVID and the hotel rooms sell out fast. I knew I wanted to go this summer so back in March I booked a few rooms and figured I would plan the rest of the trip later. Thank you to Booking.com’s free cancellation!
Fast forward to August and time snuck up on us and it was time for our weekend away! We went with another couple and drove the about 2 hours north Saturday morning. It is also possible to get their by train but since our friend had a car that seemed easier.
It was a relaxing weekend renting e-bikes and zipping around the island. I highly recommend e-bikes as it was very windy. There are tons of fields of sheep and other animals.

On Saturday we checked out the Texel brewery. We thought it would be packed, but it was only monotony busy. Pro tip, there are several breweries on Texel, but they are all closed on Sunday, so many sure to plan Saturday for that.

We stayed at the northern part of the island by the popular lighthouse. It was significantly quieter and quainter than some of the other towns. I also recommend booking a reservation for dinner as many places fill up.

Overall, it was a great weekend! We spent the right amount of time on the island in my opinion. We were there in peak August and it was still a bit chilly and it is about as warm as it gets!
