January is normally a pretty tough month here in Amsterdam. The sun rises around 9 am if there is any sun at all which, most of the time there is not. My survival tips to get through the winter include a wake-up light alarm clock, SAD lamp, taking vitamin D, a sunshine vacation (see previous Portugal post) and having plans and hanging out with friends.
In between everything we have done some fun things this month I thought would be fun to share. Although we get to travel a lot and I post all of our trips, we of course spend most of our time in the Netherlands
National tulip day! Every year, they celebrate the beginning of the tulip season with an open picking garden at museumplein where you can pick free tulips. It was CRAZY busy, but as long as you are patient it is quite nice in the end.

Other things we have been up to include bike rides on the off days when it is sunny and I started taking Dutch classes again. It is once a week and free though Ryan’s work do it seems like a no-brainer to join.

At the end of the month we had friends in town. It was a fun and action packed week doing things after work every single night. Some highlights include going to a classic brown bar, lots of tasty dinners out, and finally going to the Flying Dutchman for cocktails.

Additionally, in the last couple months we have hit up a lot of museums with our museum cards. January was no exception with the last weekend going to 4 museums in 1 weekend! I think I will do another post with a summary of all of the museums we have visiting and my favorite. Here is a sneak peek though.
